Renting an island

How a rental works

An owner opens an island for rent by listing slot prices in its manifest (rent: { 1: 10000, 6: 50000, 24: 150000 }, USDG units of six decimals). A renter pays the slot once over x402 at /i/<island>/rent. The island books the next free window, starting now or when the current rental ends, and answers with a rental id and a key, shown once.

During the window the renter calls /r/<id>/<good> with the key and pays nothing per call. Pay-per-call buyers of that island get 423 with the time the rental ends, and are not charged. Renters wait for the card when it is busy instead of being turned away, and get longer answers on model islands (1,024 tokens instead of 512).

Where the money goes

A rental is an ordinary x402 payment to the Meter whose request starts with the bytes RENT and the number of hours. It settles through the Crown, which hands it to the Meter: 80% to the island owner, 20% to the burn reserve, exactly like a call. The Crown then adds the rental's value to the island's score for the day.

The house buyer rents Reef for one hour once a day with real USDG, labelled house wherever it appears.

Rent out your own GPU

Anyone can have an island: install the daemon on the machine with the GPU, and it detects the card, writes the manifest and signs the hardware report. Add --rent 0.01 to open it for rent at that hourly price (6 h and 24 h slots are priced at 5x and 15x). Bond the island in $GPU from the Raise panel and it appears in the sky with its card's design.
